Kenya Ferry Services Ltd currently operates ferry services at Likoni & Mtongwe.
The Likoni service is run 365 days on a 24 hour basis. It serves a mixed patronage of vehicles and pedestrians and runs as per the below operations schedule.

A. LIKONI OPERATING SCHEDULES

0400 Hrs – 0500 Hrs (30 Minutes Frequency)

0400 Hrs , 0430 Hrs , 0500 Hrs

0500 Hrs – 0600 Hrs (15 Minutes Frequency)

0500 Hrs , 0515 Hrs , 0530 Hrs , 0545 Hrs , 0600 Hrs

0600 Hrs – 1000 Hrs (10 Minutes Frequency)

0610 Hrs , 0620 Hrs , 0630 Hrs  and every 10 Minutes until 1000 Hrs

1000 Hrs – 1700 Hrs (15 Minutes Frequency)

1000 Hrs , 1015 Hrs , 1030 Hrs , 1045 Hrs  and every 15 Minutes until 1700 Hrs

1700 Hrs – 2000 Hrs (10 Minutes Frequency)

1700 Hrs , 1710 Hrs , 1720 Hrs , 1730 Hrs and every 10 Minutes until 2000 Hrs

2000 Hrs – 0200 Hrs (30 Minutes Frequency)

2000 Hrs , 2030 Hrs , 2100 Hrs , 2130 Hrs and every 30 Minutes until 0200 Hrs

0200 Hrs – 0400 Hrs (60 Minutes Frequency)

0200 Hrs , 0300 Hrs and 0400 Hrs

D. MTONGWE OPERATIONS

We currently operate a peak hour’s service for passengers only at Mtongwe channel linking Mombasa Island adjacent to Bandari College and Mtongwe South Mainland.

The service runs between:-
05.30AM to 10.20 AM and 04.00 PM to 09.30 pm, at half hourly intervals.

Major improvements to controls and safety have been put in place after the 1994 Mtongwe accident. They include:-

i. Improved landing facilities i.e. jetties and pontoons.

ii. Construction of passenger waiting bays complete with loading control measures such as turnstiles for counting purposes.

iii. Full time presence of Port Police Officers and Private Guards to ensure controls are adhered to.

iv. Operation of a lager capacity and flat-bottomed ferry, that guarantees stability.
